As part of the social reintegration of graduated prisoners, NGOs and associations in Gabon have found the right formula to reintegrate into society those who were considered pariahs of the Gabonese societal universe.
If it is common knowledge that at "Sans famille" they agree to have adolescents incarcerated in this prison take the baccalaureate, it is because in Gabon we respect human rights and especially the rights of the child. And it is with this in mind that the Gabonese government, with the help of Non-Governmental Organizations, is developing mechanisms for training young people with a diploma for better reintegration into society once they are released from prison.
Among the associative structures that are working to find concrete solutions for the reintegration of young people into society, we can mention IDRC Africa.
IDRC Africa is a non-governmental organization and a civil society actor in Gabon. This NGO wants to provide one or more remedies to incarcerated youth, in order to give them an escape route for a new life to lead. And for this, the reintegration and integration of young girls and boys in prison in partnership with the General Directorate of the Central Prison of Libreville and all prisons in Gabon are considered as one of the keys to the success of their initiative.
Moreover, IDRC Africa offers dual diploma training (75% practice and 25% theory) qualifying in the professions of the agricultural sector and in the management of Income Generating Activities.
For the leaders of this NGO, the method is fully in line with the government's desire and vision in terms of diversification and acceleration of the economy but also that of interesting young people in the agricultural sector while fighting against juvenile delinquency and organized crime.
The program initially aims to absorb nearly 350 young people of both sexes, whose age range varies between 16 and 33 years. They will benefit from training after interviews aimed at giving them the basics, even once out of prison, which will be a monitoring and evaluation phase of the project for one year.
