“Committed to effective control of its environmental footprint throughout the life of the project, Maurel & Prom controls its footprint, its energy consumption, its water consumption, its greenhouse gas emissions and its production of waste. It is particularly committed to protecting natural environments and biodiversity and, where necessary, to rehabilitating sites affected by oil activities, in close collaboration with local authorities and the populations concerned. »

It is on the strength of this philosophy recorded in its Environment, Health, Safety and Security charter that the oil operator has made the month of June a month of environmental protection in various forms.

This year, singularly, at the invitation of the General Directorate for the Environment and Nature Protection (DGEPN), Maurel & Prom Gabon took an active part in the week of the environment organized in Libreville, by animating a stand, participating in conferences, in particular a workshop on green jobs, donating recycling bins and helping to clean up certain neighborhoods. The company also visited the green market in Baie des Rois with the diplomatic corps and development partners, inspected the Mindoubé landfill and attended the Gabon – United Nations system partnership presentation on sustainable development and the launch of the Local Conference of Youth.

In Port-Gentil, in partnership with the NGO Les Potagers Bio Ecoliers du Monde headed by Désiré Saphou, a large-scale action has been undertaken for the reconstitution of the mangrove victim of coastal erosion and, above all, of the activity human. For this phase, the general manager, Mathieu Thabault, and the fourth deputy mayor, Marie Claire Ogoula, representing the city councilor, launched on June 30, accompanied by agents from Maurel & Prom Gabon and numerous guests, the planting of mangroves behind "Le Ranch", in the village Avoundo Mboga. Nearly a hundred plants have thus been planted, the partner NGO having to complete the operation in the coming days.

According to Myriam Agamboué, head of the Environment, Health, Safety and Security department, this type of action is set to be made permanent. Surely the contest "My action for the environment", organized internally, which saw many employees who proposed the best ideas for the preservation of the environment being honored, will provide material for future actions of Maurel & Prom Gabon on this chapter. An appointment has therefore been made for next year.
