Pink October: the National Office for the Development of Sport and Culture held a campaign in Port-Gentil.

The National Office for the Development of Sport and Culture (ONDSC) dedicated every Saturday in October to a campaign to raise women's awareness of breast and cervical cancer. In partnership with the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports and the Regional Directorate of Health, the National Office for the Development of Sport and Culture regularly gathered every Saturday morning more than twenty women at the Pierre Claver Divounguy stadium to do fitness, followed by explanations and recommendations from doctors who came to talk about prevention, screening and treatment of these cancers. For Camille Lengounga, Provincial Director of Youth and Sports, "we must emphasize good food, good nutrition; and in the line of good habits to adopt, we must not forget the practice of sport. Dr. Jonas Mboumba, scientific referent of Pink October in the Ogooué-Maritime region, explained how to perform breast palpation. It is not complicated, he said:

"You have one hand that you put above the head and the other hand pressed on the breast; you are going to palpate, turning in one direction or the other. When you detect a lump or something abnormal, come to the hospital, we will know what to do. The regional hospital of Ntchènguè, the departmental hospital (former regional hospital) and the maternal and child health service (SMI) are the public structures that receive candidates for screening free of charge throughout the year, by appointment.
